Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination (ZHO) signed a joint cooperation agreement with Al-Hudhud Publishing and Distribution on printing paper versions and converting them electronically to suit devices and programs for people with visual disabilities.

Printing 35 publications in Braille and converting them electronically to suit devices and programs for people with visual disabilities

Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination (ZHO) signed a joint cooperation agreement with Al-Hudhud Publishing and Distribution on printing paper versions and converting them electronically to suit devices and programs for people with visual disabilities. The two sides agreed to produce 35 of Al-Hudhud's publications in Braille for the blind, geared towards providing knowledge and the reading opportunity for 6-16 year-old children and adolescents with visual disabilities. 43 copies of each theme will be printed and shared between the two sides with 20 copies for each. The remaining three copies will be sent to the concerned authorities to obtain the International Standard Book Number (ISBN).

The agreement was signed by Her Excellency Naameh Abdul-Rahman Al-Mansouri, Member of the Federal National Council, Director of the Blind Welfare Department at ZHO, and Mrs. Yusr Al-Abaiji, Operational Director of Al-Hudhud Publishing and Distribution. The signing ceremony was held at ZHO’s headquarters in the presence of officials on both sides.

Under the agreement, ZHO shall print copies of the publications allowed by Al-Hudhud in Braille and in Arabic and English, according to the approved list of books and stories. Al-Hudhud shall prepare and print the front and back paper covers of the publications using the visual method for 50 covers for each theme, and provide ZHO with a hard copy and an electronic version of the publications that suit the programs and systems used. ZHO shall give Al-Hudhud free copies of the publications along with converting them electronically and distributing them in formats suitable for devices and programs for people with visual disabilities, in addition to depositing the printed works in Braille with the competent authorities in the state for the ISBN.

Her Excellency Naameh Abdul-Rahman Al-Mansouri praised the high-end literary content provided by Al-Hudhud of for children and adolescents, and its cooperation with national institutions to advance the culture of society, develop its talents and energies, and present everything that is useful and constructive, as well as its participation in myriad areas of children's literature for creative and educational writing.

Al-Mansouri stressed ZHO’s keenness to promote the dissemination and use of Braille method in all walks of life, out of its commitment to support efforts to empower and integrate people of determination into society, and to provide the finest means of care and rehabilitation for its affiliates, especially those with visual challenges.

She noted that the Blind Welfare Department prints many educational and explanatory publications for several government agencies and NGOs in Braille, within ZHO’s social responsibility, and keenness to take part in community activities, and in all campaigns of interest to community members, and contribution through the publications of the only printing press in the state to delivering the awareness message to people with visual challenges who benefit from the Departments’ work.

For her part, Yusr Al-Abaiji emphasized that producing books for children in Braille is an important step for Al-Hudhud to consolidate communication between children with visual challenges and writers, and deliver knowledge to all children according to their different needs and abilities. “Launching this project in cooperation with ZHO embodies the importance of inclusiveness and equal opportunities in education, a new step in the initiatives aimed to empower people of determination, enhance their societal engagement and improve their quality of life”, she said.
