Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination, in collaboration with the Emirates Humanitarian City, has completed the second phase of providing care and rehabilitation for people of determination and injured Palestinians who have been transferred to the UAE for treatment and care. This initiative is in accordance with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, to treat 1,000 Palestinian children who are wounded and 1,000 cancer patients from Gaza in the country's hospitals.
The services provided by the organization include care and rehabilitation, evaluation sessions, various therapeutic sessions, the fitting of prosthetic limbs, as well as wheelchairs, medical braces, and hearing aids.
His Excellency Abdullah Al Humaidan, Secretary-General of Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination, said: "The organization's work is part of the UAE's humanitarian efforts aimed at alleviating the suffering of civilians in Gaza due to the escalating humanitarian crisis, and working to reduce its negative impacts, especially on the most vulnerable groups such as women, children, and the elderly. In this context, the organization, through the integrated central workshop for prosthetic limbs and orthopedics, provided the necessary support for cases requiring the fitting of prosthetic limbs, medical braces, and the devices needed for rehabilitation."
He added that a group of young men and women from people of determination participate in the manufacturing of prosthetic limbs, where the technical team works on designing and fitting the prosthetic limbs according to the needs of each case.
His Excellency stated that the organization does not only manufacture prosthetic limbs but also provides physical therapy and training on the use of prosthetic limbs, in addition to offering psychological support and the necessary rehabilitation for individuals to adapt to the daily use of these prosthetics.
The workshop team and the organization have successfully provided prosthetic limbs and necessary support to the wounded from Gaza across different age groups who have been received by the Emirates Humanitarian City; including cases from one year old to 60 years old.
This workshop is the first of its kind in the country and its services cover the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. It is located in the organization's center in the Al Bahia area of Abu Dhabi. The workshop was established based on the strategic cooperation agreement signed by the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination with the German company OTP Baufreund in December 2021, which includes support for employing people of determination according to their physical capabilities.
Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination confirmed that its role in providing rehabilitation support for wounded and sick Palestinians comes in partnership and cooperation with the Emirates Humanitarian City. This effort is part of the integrated efforts of various state institutions to assist civilians affected by the crisis in the Gaza Strip. These humanitarian values are reflected in many initiatives carried out by the UAE to support and aid the brotherly Palestinian people and alleviate the suffering of those affected by the consequences of the conflict, especially children and women. This extends the UAE's legacy of goodwill and generosity to mitigate the humanitarian impacts resulting from disasters and crises affecting the world's peoples.
