In support of the wise leadership's directions in using and enhancing artificial intelligence to carry out development projects to realise the future, Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination (ZHO) has announced a project to develop 3D printing products with the help of People of Determination, by inaugurating the first new workshop at the ZHO's headquarters in Al Bahia area in Abu Dhabi. Through vocational rehabilitation workshops of ZHO's Agricultural and Vocational Rehabilitation Department, the project will help to achieve ZHO's vision to empower People of Determination and support the development and use of artificial intelligence and modern technology.

The inauguration of the new workshop saw the attendance of ZHO's Secretary General His Excellency Abdulla Abdulalee Alhumaidan, Mr. Vishnu Taimni, HP's Director of Middle East, Turkey and East Africa Operations, DR. Omar Al Naqbi and Dr. Mai Al Jabri at Health Point, and Joe Hazel at Mediclinic Middle East in Abu Dhabi, in addition to a myriad of ZHO's leaders.

The project is aimed at enhancing the role of People of Determination, to develop their expertise and train them in the field of artificial intelligence.Through the 3D printing project, ZHO aspires to train and employ People of Determination on 3D printing processes including operating devices and design programmes, as well as enabling People of Determination to produce various products such as stents, and activating the 3D printing workshop to meet the needs of Students of Determination.

First of marketing products "Stents"

The new workshop commences its activities as the first workshop of its kind worldwide, managed by People of Determination by using the HP Jet Fusion 4200 series printer, to produce stents for limbs, by printing the product in a 3D printer, based on the designs and research developed by the joint team of therapists, designers and People of Determination. Seven people of determination work in the new workshop. They were carefully selected from ZHO's employees. They received specialiSed training, and passed all the tests that qualify them to work in the new workshop, whose entire security, taken into account all safety and environmental protection measures in its design and equipment.

The workshop produced 205 stents over May and June, supplied to Mediclinic Middle East, ZHO's 3D printing project strategic partner. Mediclinic's role is to receive and diagnose medical cases when they need the stents, and then order them to be delivered by the workshop.

His Excellency the ZHO's SG confirmed that choosing Mediclinic to cooperate with in launching the new workshop, was due to its specialty in advanced orthopedic management, and the rehabilitation of highly precise and effective prosthetics for a number of cases. His Excellency noted that ZHO's chosen specialiSed therapists, designers and People of Determination received training on how to use specialiSed printers in the field of treatment and rehabilitation services.

He asserted that the introduction of this advanced technology comes as part of ZHO's development plans, and its endeavor to use artificial intelligence to train and empower People of Petermination, which is the first of its kind in the United Arab Emirates, based on simulating the virtual world in the trainin of People of Determination to facilitate their full integration into society, enabling them to be independent and self-reliant.

His Excellency pointed out that this new technology saves time and effort for specialists while diagnosing, training and empowering People of Determination. It has become possible to print prosthetic devices and artificial limbs, through which specialised, high-quality and high-precision prosthetic orthopedic devices and limbs are provided for People of Determination, as well as receiving the largest number of cases, and providing accurate follow-up through the reports submitted on each case separately.

HP's participation in the event

The participation of Mr. Vishnu Taimni Managing director of Middle East, Turkey, & East Africa Operations for the American company Hewlett-Packard (HP), which is specialised in information technology, has developed, and provided a variety of hardware components, in the inauguration of a project to develop products with 3D printing technology, with the efforts of People of Determination.

The company, through its specialised research center in Barcelona, Spain, will conduct a scientific and practical study of the work and performance of People of Determination from Zayed higher Organization on 3D printers used at the workshop. The company will develop and make improvements to the 3D printers to adapt them for use by People of Determination, and then generalise the experience to the company's branches on a worldwide level.

3D printing

3D printing, or "accumulative manufacturing", is the process of making 3D solid objects, using computer programs (digital file), and then printing (manufacturing) it by a 3D printer. It is one of the milestones of the technological revolution in the modern era, as it stormed into several industrial fields and sectors. It demonstrated its promising potential in a myriad of fields. It is more efficient and easier in use than other manufacturing technology. 3D printing contributes in the production of highly complex shapes, using lesser materials, unlike traditional manufacturing methods.

3D printer technology is also characterised by being ten times faster than other methods, lower-cost and offering great advantages to people who need prototypes within hours rather than days. Though it is still expensive, its cost is simple compared to advanced devices that have the same functions but in a more technical way. Different materials can be used to make models, in addition to plastic, provided that they are melted, and have the ability to harden in no time.
